About Tanjung Aan

Tanjung Aan is a twin-bay peninsula on the southeast coast of Lombok, widely regarded as the most scenic kite beach on the island. Two sweeping arcs of white sand frame a turquoise lagoon, and the geography works in your favour as a rider: the southeast trade wind — running roughly 130 to 155 degrees — arrives side-onshore across both bays during the prime June-to-September season, keeping launches clean and giving you room to work either direction along the beach. Getting there from Lombok's main hub involves a drive south through the Mandalika coastal corridor. The road has improved significantly with resort development in the area, and Tanjung Aan sits beyond the larger hotels that have taken shape along this stretch of coastline. Parking is straightforward near the beach access points; the twin-bay layout means you can pick your side depending on the day's conditions. The water character here is the standout. Flat to light chop inside the bays, turquoise, and warm — classic tropical kite territory. The southeast swell that drives the trade-wind season wraps around the headlands and loses most of its energy before reaching the inner water, so what you get is a clean, manageable surface for the majority of sessions. That said, it pays to watch the outer water before committing to a long downwind run. Wind arrives with solid consistency during the trade season. The 18-to-28 knot range gives you a useful spread — lighter days work well for bigger kites and more relaxed sessions, while the upper end will keep experienced riders fully occupied. Side-onshore from the southeast means both bays have a predictable kite window and a usable safety margin if things go sideways. The usable wind arc runs from roughly 80 to 240 degrees, so a wide range of directions stay in play. Skill-level wise, the flat water and reliable side-onshore entry make Tanjung Aan accessible for intermediates looking to log hours in quality conditions. Beginners should have supervised beach time under their belt first — the beach is wide enough for learning but the trade-season wind can be punchy on its stronger days, and there is no formal safety infrastructure on site. Come self-sufficient in equipment; this is not a full kite centre with rental gear and rescue boats on standby. Facilities are solid for a spot of this character.
