About Donnalucata

Donnalucata sits at the southern tip of Sicily, part of the municipality of Scicli in the Ragusa province. The shoreline here points directly south, wide open to the Mediterranean — which means when the Scirocco or any southerly wind builds, this beach catches it cleanly with very little to break it up before it reaches you. The beach is sandy, and the shore orientation is as direct as it gets: 180° south, facing straight into the prevailing warm-weather airflow. The usable kite window runs from 100° (southeast) all the way around to 260° (west-southwest), covering the full range of southerly Mediterranean wind directions. In practice, that means SE Scirocco, due-south thermal, and SW wind are all on the table. Conditions when it's on tend to sit in the 15–25 knot range, with a mix of small waves and chop depending on the wind direction. A strong Scirocco from the southeast kicks up the most interesting water — not a dedicated wave spot by any means, but in proper Scirocco conditions the wave potential comes alive and gives riders something to work with. Southwesterly and southerly winds typically deliver a flatter, choppier surface, better suited to freestyle or cruising. The season runs April through October. Summer is the most reliable window for southerly airflow, though beach traffic increases. September tends to be a sweet spot: the season still runs, the crowds thin out, and the Scirocco keeps making its presence felt as heat from the interior collides with air off the sea. This is a spot for intermediate riders. The entry and launch on a flat sandy beach with a clean southward fetch are relatively uncomplicated, but you are working in open water, and when the Scirocco picks up, the chop and wave action require solid water-start ability and experience reading changing conditions. Beginners should look elsewhere unless they have proper supervision. After riding, Donnalucata keeps you fed and watered. Bar Riviera and Blue Moon are your quick post-session stops for a coffee or something cold. For food, Bar Pizzeria No Comment, Brisè Ristorantico, and Cà si Mancia cover the range from casual to a proper sit-down meal. If you are staying in the village, Acquamarina, B&B Micenci Donnalucata, and B&B Il Gabbiano all offer accommodation within easy reach of the water. Donnalucata has the feel of a working fishing village that has not been overbuilt for tourism. The vibe is low-key, the beach is real, and the southward fetch is as clean as you will find on Sicily's south coast.
