About Frigole · Lecce

Frigole sits on the Adriatic coast of Salento, roughly 15 kilometres northeast of Lecce in Puglia's heel. The beach is flat and sandy, the bottom shallow and forgiving, and the shore faces east — which puts incoming northerly and north-easterly winds into a side-to-onshore orientation across a wide, open stretch of coastline. The dominant regional winds are the Tramontana from the north and the Mistral from the northwest. Summer is the headline season: you can reasonably expect around 25 wind days per month, with speeds typically ranging from 13 to 22 knots. The usable kite window runs from NNE through to SSE (10° to 150°), which means Tramontana days — northerly, clean, and consistent — are when this beach earns its reputation. When the Mistral arrives from the northwest, the east-facing beach shifts toward a side-offshore orientation and sits outside that usable window. Wind angle matters here more than wind speed. Water character is the main draw for freestylers and freeriders. The Adriatic here is flat, or close to it — chop rather than proper swell, which makes Frigole ideal if you're working on flat-water tricks, getting comfortable with unhooked riding, or simply logging quality hours without the complexity of a wave face. Don't expect surf; do expect a predictable, forgiving playground. Getting here from Lecce is straightforward — the beach is roughly 15 kilometres out and accessible by road. Once you arrive, rigging space is generous and the launch from the sandy beach is uncomplicated. The shallow, sandy bottom means you can walk a good distance before body-dragging out, which is handy for self-rescue and for students working on water relaunches. The kite school scene is well-established. Aloha Kitesurf Team and Local Salento Kitesurf both offer IKO-certified instruction on site and are open to visiting riders. Scuola KITE Lecce ASD also operates here but is members-only. If you're travelling without gear or want local coaching, options are available. For food and drink, you're well covered. Star Beach and Aurora Cafè are on the beachfront, with Ristorante Da Ciccio, Braci & Abbracci, and Friggitoria F.lli Lubelli Frigole rounding out the local dining. Racar Residence Hotel and Lobby Collective Hostel keep you close to the water if you're basing yourself here for a few days. If you're unsure about conditions on a given morning, stop into one of the schools before rigging — they'll read the local wind angle better than any forecast.
