The spot breaks naturally into two riding zones that cater to very different riders. In the lagoon itself, southwesterly and westerly winds keep the water butter-flat. The shallowness is a genuine asset — beginners learning to ride upwind get a forgiving surface with plenty of room to work, and freestyle riders find a smooth canvas without having to chase waves. When the wind is coming through SW or W, this is as clean and flat as the Ionian gets. The other zone is the Bacino Grande — the big bay section — which comes alive when the wind swings around to SSE. That direction brings more fetch and with it proper chop and wave formations. This is where advanced riders head when conditions are building. It's a meaningfully different experience from the lagoon, and the spread of the wind arc means both setups can occur within days of each other. Getting there is straightforward. Torre Lapillo is a small Pugliese coastal village and the beach access is well-established. The launch faces southwest, so for most of the usable wind arc you're looking at a side-onshore or cross-shore entry — which keeps the launch area manageable. In winter, gusts here run between 15 and 35 knots. That's a wide range, and it demands an honest look at your quiver before you make the trip. Don't arrive expecting one kite to cover everything. This is genuinely one of the windiest spots in Italy, so if you're chasing light-wind days you're at the wrong address. Come when it's on and come prepared. For food and drinks nearby, Agriturismo Masseria Bellimento is a restaurant in the area and K2 serves as a local bar and café. If you need a kite school or rental gear, verify availability locally before you travel — neither facility is confirmed as a kite outfitter in the available information. The vibe here leans more working coastal community than purpose-built kite resort, which suits most riders just fine.
