Year-round freeride spot; good for all levels in moderate conditions. Busy in August; spring and autumn give the best combination of wind and fewer crowds.

About Gallipoli – Padula Bianca

Padula Bianca lines the Ionian coast roughly three kilometres north of Gallipoli's old town. Up here the beach opens wide — the sand is genuinely, almost disorienting white, and the shallows run a deep Ionian turquoise that could pass for somewhere further south. The seabed shelves gently, keeping chop manageable in moderate wind and making the water accessible for a broad range of skill levels. This is a flat-water freeride beach: no reef, no sudden drop-off — just wide open Ionian water and a consistent wind arc that suits riding in either direction along the shore. The beach faces west, and the usable wind window sweeps a broad arc from south-east through north-west. Two distinct wind types can make the spot work. The Maestrale — the north-westerly — arrives side-shore and is typically the steadier option, running 12–25 knots when it's established. The Scirocco comes from the south-east, side-onshore, and while it can bring more humidity and haze, it still sets up a workable session. Both directions put you riding across the beach rather than straight toward it or out to open water — the kind of orientation that makes a spot genuinely usable rather than just technically rated. The water character suits all-round freeriding. Shallow flats reward beginners working on waterstarting and give intermediates room to build speed without sudden depth changes to worry about. When the Maestrale strengthens toward the top of its range, the open Ionian fetch gives it room to build texture and the chop stacks enough to keep things interesting. There's no significant wave or surf break here — it's long runs, kite loops if that's your game, and flat-water riding. Spring and autumn are the seasons to target: wind is reliable, the beach is quiet compared to the August peak, and the combination is hard to beat. July and August are busy with summer tourism. The spot remains kiteable, but you'll need to be deliberate about your launch zone and give swimmers a proper margin. Manageable with care, but it's a very different experience from a quiet October session with the beach nearly to yourself. Accommodation near the beach covers a wide range: Hotel Rivabella, Hotel Sabhé Gallipoli, and Gallipoli City Suite for those who want a hotel room; Camping Village La Vecchia Torre, AgriCampeggio & Glamping Torre Sabea, and Glamping Area Luxury Tents for something more outdoorsy.
