About Dakhla Dune Blanche

The Dune Blanche is one of those spots that stops you mid-conversation. A 10-metre white sand dune rising straight out of the Dakhla lagoon, it sits in the middle of the water like a natural sculpture — forming its own sheltered mini-lagoon on one side and offering open lagoon on the other. Getting here is part of the experience. The dune is only accessible by boat, and you'll need to time your transfer for high tide. There's no beach access, no road — if you haven't sorted the boat ride, you're not getting out there. Most riders organise a transfer through one of the kite schools operating in the Dakhla area, including BreakOUT Kiteboarding Dakhla, Dakhla Kiteboarding School, Dakhla Kitesurf Safari, Dakhla kitesurfing lessons, and Dakhla Surf School XcelSurf. They know the tides and can handle the logistics. Once you're on the dune, the setup is genuinely unusual. The NNE trade wind that defines Dakhla wraps around the dune's shape, producing kiting angles that vary depending on where you're positioned relative to it. That wrap effect is what makes this spot special — you can find all-direction windows that a flat beach launch simply doesn't offer. The mini-lagoon on the sheltered side typically runs flatter, while conditions on the exposed face track closer to open lagoon character. This is an intermediate-and-above spot, and that's an honest read rather than cautious marketing. Boat-only access means you're in the middle of a lagoon with no option of walking back to shore. You need solid water relaunch skills and confidence managing your kite in variable wind angles without anyone nearby to assist. Trade wind in the 15–30-knot range gives this spot real power — workable for an experienced rider but demanding if you're still building your fundamentals. For riders who are ready for it, the session earns its reputation. The visual is hard to match — white sand, lagoon water, open sky — and the wrapped wind makes the riding feel genuinely different from anything else on the Moroccan circuit. Facilities on the dune are exactly what you'd expect on a sandbank in the middle of a lagoon: none. Everything you need is back in Dakhla town.
