About Dakhla Lassarga

Lassarga sits at the very southern tip of the Dakhla peninsula, the point where the sheltered lagoon finally gives way to open Atlantic. It's a different experience from the lagoon camps further north: ocean is present here in a way you feel before you've even rigged up. The approach runs south out of Dakhla town along the peninsula, the landscape getting progressively emptier until water appears on both sides of the track. Park near the beach and you're on a coastal strip caught between the lagoon and the Atlantic edge. The launch itself is a coastal beach rather than anything technical — but the wind direction is the thing you need to read carefully before you go in. The trade wind here is NNE, arriving at a side-to-slightly-offshore angle relative to the shore (shore-normal around 300°, usable kite window 210°–30°). That offshore lean is the defining characteristic of Lassarga. It organises the water into the shape wave riders want, but it's a reminder that if your kite goes down away from shore, the wind has an opinion about where you're going. Solid self-rescue ability and a rescue plan before you launch are not optional. The riding character splits cleanly by season. March through October, the NNE trades run with genuine consistency — Dakhla registers around 328 windy days a year — and the water off Lassarga has the texture that rewards freestyle: manageable chop, long flat runs, steady pressure across the arc. Freestylers with strong fundamentals find the conditions reliable without the noise of a busier break. October through March, the Atlantic takes the lead. Swell rolls in and breaks as right-handers, and this is the season that pulls wave riders looking for proper open-ocean surf rather than a lagoon lip. Lassarga is not a beginner spot. The slightly-offshore component, the ocean exposure, and the absence of forgiving flat-water margins make it a place for riders who are genuinely comfortable in the water and know their self-rescue. Advanced freestylers and dedicated wave riders are at home here; if you're still building water confidence, the lagoon spots further north will serve you better.
