About La Sarga Dakhla

La Sarga sits at the southern tip of the Dakhla peninsula, right where the sheltered lagoon gives way to open Atlantic swell. It's a different beast from the flat-water lagoon spots that define Dakhla's reputation — this is where the peninsula runs out and the ocean takes over, and the riding reflects that completely. From the airport it's about 15km south. The road follows the peninsula down to its narrowing southern end, and La Sarga announces itself by the change in water texture: glassy lagoon surface on one side, proper open ocean on the other, converging at the tip. The launch area sits right at that junction. The wind blows from the north-northeast and — this is the defining detail — it's 100% offshore here. That's not a minor asterisk, it's the character of the spot. Offshore means clean pressure and consistent conditions while you're riding, but it also means that if something goes wrong and you're drifting, the Atlantic is waiting rather than a beach. This is not a spot where you figure things out. The right-hand waves breaking about 400 metres out are excellent — long, open-face rides that give surf-kite riders real working room — but they demand that you already know exactly what you're doing before you step in. The convergence of lagoon and ocean creates interesting water texture around the launch zone. Currents can run at the meeting point, particularly as the tide moves, and reading the water before you rig is time well spent. The right-handers peel consistently in the prevailing swell and reward anyone with wave-riding experience who makes it out there. On the facilities side, Kite Jungle operates as a kite school in the area, and Ocean Vagabond Lassarga offers accommodation nearby. Staying close to a spot like this has real value — La Sarga can shift quickly, and being local means you catch the windows when they open rather than arriving to find they've already closed. This is genuinely an expert spot. The offshore wind removes the safety net that most kiters rely on when things go sideways. Solid self-rescue skills, reliable gear, and ideally a riding partner are non-negotiable. Wave riding here suits surfboards or directionals, though the right choice depends on your weight and the day's conditions. Come when you can already ride comfortably in waves and handle offshore on your own terms. La Sarga is worth the discipline it demands. Right-handers at the tip of the Dakhla peninsula, Sahara behind you, Atlantic ahead — it's a rare setup.
