Caticlan sits on the western tip of the Aklan mainland, a compact ferry town best known as the jumping-off point for Boracay. Most travellers rush through on their way to the boat terminal, but kiters in the know slow down — because the Sibuyan Sea opens up to the southwest here, and when the Habagat monsoon rolls in from June through October, this west-facing beach gets cross-onshore wind in a setting that Boracay's busier Bulabog Beach couldn't match for elbow room. The kite window runs 185°–335°, covering everything from a straight southerly Habagat push to northwesterly wraps. The monsoon delivers roughly 10–20 knots of cross-onshore breeze on most active days. The water is flat with a sandy bottom and shallow enough for comfortable touchdowns — genuinely forgiving ground for intermediates working transitions or just clocking consistent freeride kilometres without drama. Getting here is straightforward. Caticlan is the established ferry gateway for Boracay, so transport links to the town are well set up. The beach sits close to the ferry terminal and the town centre, meaning access and gear-drop are simple on foot. It isn't a purpose-built kite park — it's a working beach town with a kite scene that has grown up organically around the Habagat season. And that scene has proper roots. Freestyle Academy Kitesurfing, Greenyard Kitesurfing Club, Habagat Kiteboarding Center, Hangin Kitesurf Center & Resort, and Padayon Kitesurfing Kiteboarding Center & Rental all operate here, covering lessons, rentals, and local knowledge. That's a genuinely strong concentration of schools for a beach of this size — finding instruction or a day's rental shouldn't be a scramble. After your session, Emdukes Restaurant, Kam's Restaurant, and lokal Beach Bar handle the debrief. Hangout Beach Resort and My Hostel Boracay cover the overnight if you're not catching the late ferry back. The real draw over Boracay's Bulabog is breathing room. Bulabog pulls international kiteboarding tourists throughout the Habagat season; Caticlan Beach typically runs at a fraction of that density. More space on the water, less competition at the launch, and a more local atmosphere in general — some riders actively prefer that working-town energy over the polished resort scene just across the channel. This spot looks well-suited to intermediates. The cross-onshore angle and flat water take away most of the technical demands, but solid upwind riding and reliable self-rescue are still worth having before heading out independently. Beginners are better served starting with one of the local schools first; with five schools operating on the beach, good instruction is genuinely easy to find.
