About Chałupy

Chałupy sits on the narrowest stretch of the Hel Peninsula, a thin spit of land dividing the open Baltic Sea from the sheltered waters of Puck Bay. This is the bay side — and that distinction defines everything about riding here. The water is flat, shallow, and sandy-bottomed, stretching out into the kind of glassy playground that makes freestyle riders and first-timers alike grin from ear to ear. Getting here is straightforward: the peninsula is long and linear, and Chałupy is your landmark on the map. The bay-side beach faces roughly south, and that orientation is the key to reading the wind. The usable kite window runs from east through south to west — 90° to 270° — and it's westerly and south-westerly winds that deliver the best conditions. They blow onshore across the bay, generating clean, consistent pressure without the chop that open-sea swell brings. On a solid W or SW day, you're riding over knee-to-waist-deep water for hundreds of metres from shore, the sandy bottom clearly visible beneath you. That shallow, forgiving bottom is what built Chałupy's reputation. Crashes cost you nothing here. Beginners can drag, tumble, and relaunch without fear of depth; intermediate riders have a flat-water runway long enough to dial in unhooked tricks or work on their freestyle foundations. There's room for everyone — when it isn't too crowded, anyway. Summer is peak season and it shows hard. On a good wind day the bay fills up fast, with kites stacked from the school zones outward toward the horizon. Those zones are clearly marked and enforced by common sense — stay clear of them, read the beach before you launch, and your session will go smoothly. Multiple kite schools operate here: Banana Kite & Surf, Fun Surf School Wind & Kite, Happy Up - Szkoła Kitesurfingu, and FLY WING SCHOOL (which also runs a NeilPryde test centre), so instruction and demo kit are genuinely accessible if you need them. When the wind swings north or north-east — outside that 90°–270° window — the bay side loses its angle. The peninsula is narrow enough that you can cross to the Baltic Sea side, a different body of water entirely with open fetch and wave potential. Worth knowing before you unpack. After riding, the village covers the basics. Bar u Ani is the natural post-session stop for a drink. For food, Chałupa, Karma, Hotel 77, and Coral. Guest rooms all offer sit-down options within the area. Domki i pokoje gościnne „U Adaśka" handles self-catering accommodation if you're staying over. Chałupy isn't a secret and it doesn't pretend to be. It's a well-organised, high-traffic spot with a fully deserved reputation as one of Poland's best flatwater destinations.
