About Dębki / Bukowo Lake

Bukowo Lake sits just behind a narrow spit of land that divides it from the Baltic Sea near the village of Dębki, in West Pomerania. This former Baltic lagoon has evolved into one of Poland's more interesting kite spots precisely because of what separates it from the open sea: a sheltered sheet of flat, shallow water with a shore that faces northwest, meaning the prevailing westerly and north-westerly winds blow clean and onshore. Getting here means making your way to Dębki on the Pomeranian coast. The village is small and seasonal, so outside peak summer months expect things to be quiet — but that also means less crowd pressure on the water. Lake access sits behind the dune spit, and you'll want to allow enough time to carry gear down to the water's edge. The riding surface is the real draw. Bukowo Lake is shallow and largely shielded from Baltic swell, which gives you flat water that beginners will appreciate and freestylers can properly exploit. If you're still building kite control, this is a forgiving environment — no significant chop to knock you around, room to make mistakes, and the onshore wind component helps with self-rescue if things go sideways. Freestyle riders will find the flat water consistent enough to work on technique without fighting messy conditions underneath. The dominant wind directions are W to NW, and the usable kite window runs from around 235° through to 35°. That's a wide spread covering WSW all the way to NNE, giving reasonable odds of catching a rideable day on most trips. Wind can shift to E/NE — worth confirming the actual direction before you rig, because that changes how the launch plays out. Hazards are typical for a shallow lake environment: mind your depth when landing in unfamiliar sections, stay aware of the downwind shore, and expect the water to get busier on summer weekends. Facilities in Dębki are solid for a small coastal village. For a proper meal, Fish Pub, Pod Ponurą Małpą, Gospoda pod Laguną, and Pizza Salsa cover different ends of the hunger scale. At the bar Wydmą is there if you want a drink without a full sit-down. Sweet stops are sorted by Cukiernia and Fabryka Lodów. Porto and Krab add further café options. On the accommodation side, Gospoda pod Laguną and Luka pole namiotowe — a camping ground — make multi-day stays straightforward. Summer is the obvious window for this spot, when the village opens up and the Polish coast typically sees its best wind consistency.
