About Jastarnia

Jastarnia sits on the Hel Peninsula, a narrow spit of land in Pomerania that cuts off Puck Bay from the open Baltic. The kitesurf spot is on the bay side of town, right of the pier — a position that gives you access to one of the most sheltered riding environments on Poland's coast. Approach and getting here: Jastarnia is a small resort town connected by road and a rail line that runs the length of the peninsula. The bay-side beach near the pier is where kite activity concentrates. Parking can fill quickly during peak summer, so arriving early or coming by train on busy weekends saves frustration. Launch area: The spot is right of the pier on the bay side. Water is shallow here — you can wade a long way out before it gets deep, which is a genuine safety margin and makes water starts low-consequence. Peak season brings a mix of kitesurfers, windsurfers, and SUP riders onto the same beach, so normal launch discipline applies: clear the space, communicate clearly with whoever's holding your bar, and walk calmly to the water. Wind and water: The usable window runs from roughly SSW (210°) through N (350°), with W, WNW, and NW delivering the cleanest sessions. WSW is rideable too. The shore faces WNW into the bay, so your best wind directions put you on cross-shore to onshore angles — the beach stays close and self-rescue is straightforward. Water runs flat to choppy depending on wind strength, and the shallow bottom extends up to a kilometre offshore, keeping the riding environment forgiving rather than punishing. Spring, autumn, and winter are the windiest seasons; summer often brings lighter, patchier air and considerably more company on the beach. Who it suits: All skill levels. Beginners specifically benefit from the wide, shallow wading area — falling is low-stakes and getting back upwind on foot is easy. Intermediates can cover good ground across the bay. When the wind comes in solidly during shoulder season, the spot has enough fetch and consistency to satisfy experienced riders too. Facilities on the ground: Two kite schools operate locally — Chill&Kite and KiteLife Kiteboarding Instruktor Jastarnia — covering lessons and likely gear hire. For food and a post-session coffee, Aloha Bar and Najpierw Kawka! are in the area.
