About El Saler

El Saler sits on a long sandy beach inside the Albufera Natural Park, around ten kilometres south of Valencia city. The park's dune system frames a wide, open stretch of coast that gives kiters genuine room to rig and launch — a real contrast to the cramped tourist strips found elsewhere on the Spanish Mediterranean. The natural park setting keeps commercial development limited, which means the beach stays relatively uncrowded even in peak summer. Getting there from Valencia is a straightforward run south along the coast. Once on the sand, space is not a problem: you can lay out your lines without negotiating around sunbathers or neighbouring kiters. The dune-backed beach gives a clean, uncluttered launch zone that intermediates and advanced riders will appreciate. The usable wind window here runs from around north-northeast to south-southeast — a broad 140-degree arc centred on the east-facing shore. The classic summer pattern is the Llevant from the east and the Garbí from the southeast, both arriving onshore during the afternoon. When the thermal builds, it typically delivers a consistent push off the beach and into open water. It is the kind of session wind that rewards staying on the water rather than burning early. Close to shore the water is relatively flat with a sandy bottom — typical Mediterranean conditions. The hazard worth taking seriously is the current near the Albufera outlet. The Albufera is a large coastal lagoon that borders the area, and where it drains to sea there is a lateral current that can move you steadily downwind without much obvious warning. Stay on the main beach section, keep track of your drift, and know where the outlet sits before you launch. El Saler suits intermediate and advanced riders best. The onshore afternoon thermal can be lively, and the current near the outlet means solid board control is a prerequisite.
