Thung Wua Laen Beach — also called Cabana Beach — lines the eastern Gulf of Thailand coast near Saphli, north of Chumphon town. Three kilometres of sandy, palm-shaded coastline stretch in a gentle arc, and the geography here does something useful: it channels and amplifies the NE monsoon, which is why this beach has quietly built a reputation as one of the more consistent Gulf coast kite spots. The launch area is open sandy beach with enough room to rig, walk your kite down to the shoreline, and get in without fighting obstacles. The sand is forgiving underfoot, and the gradual setup means you can take your time before committing to a launch. The main season runs mid-October to mid-January, when the NE monsoon establishes itself and typically delivers 15–25 knots with reasonable consistency. The wind arrives side-onshore from the left as you face the Gulf — a genuinely good angle. You launch cleanly, your riding line runs at a useful angle across the beach, and any drift pushes you back toward shore rather than offshore. For riders still building confidence, that leftward side-onshore setup is reassuring rather than stressful. The water is Gulf of Thailand flat-to-chop near shore, the sandy bottom making falls more manageable than rocky alternatives. The beach's orientation keeps things relatively organised in the main season — you are not fighting cross-offshore angles or trying to thread between obstacles. A second window opens June through September when the SW monsoon crosses, though conditions tend to be less consistent than the primary NE season. Worth checking if you find yourself in Chumphon during those months. Kite schools on the beach offer tuition at rates that are affordable by international standards, which makes this a sensible place to start or push your riding forward without straining your budget.
