The Meltemi blows north-to-northwest, arriving cross-offshore and turning the entire 4 km bay into a flat-water freeride stage. Wind typically intensifies from noon to mid-afternoon, regularly reaching 25 kt. The north-coast "Karaköy" section offers cross-on conditions as an alternative. About Datça

Datça sits at the tip of a long, narrow peninsula that pushes deep into the Aegean — and that geography is precisely why the kiting here is so good. The main bay faces northwest toward the Cyclades, fully exposed to the open sea, and when the Meltemi is running it delivers a clean, consistent north-to-northwest flow across the entire 4 km stretch. The Meltemi arrives cross-offshore on the main bay, which keeps the surface flat and the conditions organised. You get proper flatwater rather than wind-against-current chop, and the rides here are long, open and fast. The wind typically builds through the morning and peaks from noon into mid-afternoon, regularly reaching 25 knots — a predictable enough rhythm to plan your session around. Cross-offshore means freedom downwind, but it also demands respect. Have a self-rescue plan before you launch, don't push out underpowered when the Meltemi is running, and be clear on your exit options. With that groundwork in place, the bay opens up as a genuinely rewarding arena. Riding-wise, this is a freeride lap spot. The flat water and consistent pressure invite long carving runs and smooth gybes more than technical aerial work, though when the wind builds you can find enough ramp for riders who want air. Intermediates progressing their freeriding will find Datça satisfying — the conditions are readable, the bay is spacious, and the setup is honest. Advanced riders can lean on the Meltemi and cover serious ground. If the main bay angle doesn't suit your launch preference, the Karaköy section on the north coast of the peninsula offers cross-on conditions as a useful alternative. Season runs May through September, with warm, clear Mediterranean water throughout. July and August typically deliver the most consistent Meltemi; May, June and September can be excellent but expect more variability. Datça town itself is a low-key, whitewashed Aegean settlement — not a resort strip. For food, Alfheim, Baba Lokantası, Baboşun yeri, Big Mamas, Ankara Köfte Datça and Burger King cover a range of styles and budgets. For a pre- or post-session drink, 48R BİSTRO & COFFEE and Cafe Inn are both straightforward options. Armoni Hotel Datca and Club Datca Resorts cover accommodation. This is not a kite gear hub — come with your own equipment. Getting here takes time. Datça is at the end of a long, winding peninsula, and the road reflects that geography. Budget significantly more travel time than the map distance might suggest — this is a committed destination.
