About Lancing Beach

Lancing Beach sits on the English Channel coast of West Sussex, roughly midway between Worthing to the west and Shoreham-by-Sea to the east. The beach faces directly south, and the prevailing south-westerlies arrive cross-onshore from the right — the kind of angle that keeps things manageable, lets you work upwind without fighting the beach, and means a re-launch doesn't put you straight into the break. Easterlies run cross-shore and open a second usable window, giving the spot a generous 110°–260° arc overall. The kite area is at the beach access east of Lancing Sailing Club — that's your landmark. Parking is limited, so early arrival on a promising forecast day is the smart call. Lancing is an exposed stretch with no natural wind shelter, which is its appeal (reliable, unobstructed flow when it's on) and the thing to respect (it can run stronger and choppier than a nearby station might suggest). The water is generally flat to small chop, which suits freeriders and anyone working on transitions or jumps. An active Channel swell can change the texture — the beach is south-facing and open — but this isn't a dedicated wave spot. When the SW fills in cross-onshore, you'll find a well-powered window and enough room to get into a rhythm. Easterly sessions tend to feel crisper, with flatter water and a cleaner cross-shore line. Self-sufficiency matters at Lancing. There is no dedicated kite infrastructure at the beach, so bring everything you need — pump, repair kit, safety leash in working order — and check the forecast and tide carefully before you rig. The exposed position means conditions can shift, and the beach changes character between high and low water. For food and coffee, Brooklands Cafe and Azul Coffee and Eatery cover pre-session needs. Capri and Deli Bean work for a sit-down meal after; Domino's if you want something quick. There's a Costa for the familiar fix. If you're chasing a weather window over a couple of days, accommodation options in the area include Beach Green Hotel, Cavatina Lodge Guest House, Beach Park, and Broadway Park. Lancing suits intermediates and above who can read conditions and launch independently. It's a solid South Coast option when the south-westerlies are running and you want flat-to-choppy freeriding within easy reach of Brighton and Worthing.
