About Mundaú

Mundaú sits on the Ceará coastline of northeast Brazil, a fishing village west of Trairi that most kiters pass by on their way between more famous names. That oversight is the spot's main advantage. The lagoon here is flat, the trades are reliable, and the beach is quiet in a way that feels almost unusual for this part of the Brazilian coast. Getting here means heading off the coastal road into a small village that runs at fishing-village speed. There's no kite resort infrastructure, no signs pointing to a launch area — you navigate by asking locally or finding the lagoon yourself, which doesn't take long. Parking is near the beach and the carry to the water is short. The lagoon opens up once you're past the village fringe, and the scale of it becomes clear: broad, shallow, and calm in a way that's immediately readable to anyone who's done a flat-water session before. The wind is the eastern trade, coming in side-onshore. It runs typically in the 15–25 knot range with a usable arc from 295° through to 75° — a wide window that keeps the angle manageable regardless of small daily shifts in direction. Side-onshore is the ideal angle for lagoon riding: you're launching comfortably, the drift keeps you moving along the shore rather than offshore, and the lagoon's upwind boundary stays within reach. The tidal character of the lagoon matters here. At low water the flat is at its widest and shallowest — ideal for beginners working through water starts or intermediates drilling transitions with room to spare. As the tide rises the water deepens and the usable area shrinks, so an early arrival is worth it. Walk the shoreline before you rig and get a sense of where the shallow sections are. Facilities are close to zero. Mundaú is a working fishing village and it functions as one: no kite hire, no bar with a view of the launch, no rescue boat. The flip side is landscape that's genuinely unspoiled — dunes framing the lagoon, clear water, fishing boats pulled up on the sand. Come self-sufficient. Bring water, food, sunscreen, and a repair kit. The equatorial sun is serious and there's limited shade outside the dune edge. Mundaú sits inside the longer Ceará downwind corridor between Preá and Tutóia, and that context is useful if you're planning a multi-day coastal run. The flat lagoon makes it a natural pause point — rest water before or after a bigger stretch. As a destination in its own right, it's worth the detour for riders who want uncrowded kiting on classic trade winds without any of the scene that follows.
