About Aléria

Aléria sits on the eastern edge of Corsica, a long, sandy stretch of coastline that marks the easternmost point of Metropolitan France. The village carries genuine history — the ruins of an ancient Roman settlement overlook the coast — and the beach itself has a remote, unhurried feel that contrasts with Corsica's more touristic western shores. Getting here takes commitment, but that's partly what keeps the lineup uncrowded. The beach is a gently sloping, sandy coastal break where an agricultural river meets the Mediterranean. It faces east-northeast, setting up perfectly for the Levante — the NE-to-E wind that arrives reliably onshore from April through October. The usable kite window runs from 350° to 170°, giving solid coverage across the full swing of the Levante. When it's in, you get clean onshore or cross-onshore flow over relatively flat water: exactly what freeride and freestyle riders are looking for. Launch from the sandy beach — the slope is gradual and the sand is firm enough at the waterline to rig and walk your kite down without drama. Before you session, give the river mouth proper attention. Where the agricultural river meets the sea, dynamic sediment patterns form and localised currents can develop. The water circulation shifts with tide and river flow, and after heavy rain the river outflow becomes more significant. It's a manageable hazard but not one to ignore — check conditions before you go in. The setting is part of what makes Aléria worth seeking out. Behind the beach, a lagoon and pine forest create a backdrop that few French kite spots can match. On a clear Levante day, looking back from the water at the combination of ancient ruins, lagoon, and pine-covered slopes, you'll understand why the drive was worth it. That setting comes with self-sufficient logistics — there is no rental shop or kite school directly at this beach. Come with everything you need. For food nearby, Café de la Place is roughly 50 metres from the village centre, and Bella-Vista is within 400 metres. If you're staying over, Camping Aléria and Camping Marina d'Aléria both sit around 3.9 km from the shore, while CHEZ RACHEL CHAMBRE D'HOTE offers a B&B option under a kilometre away. The April-to-October window gives a good stretch to work with, and the flat water character means intermediates can push progression without wave overhead. Those chasing technical freestyle sessions will find the conditions well suited. Plan for the river mouth and come self-sufficient — get both right and Aléria more than delivers.
