Cap Taferit sits on Mauritania's Atlantic coast in the Inchiri region, where the Sahara Desert meets the sea at the northern fringe of the Banc d'Arguin UNESCO National Park. This is as remote as kite spots get — 120 km south of Nouadhibou, the nearest town, with zero facilities on-site and no rescue infrastructure anywhere close. If that doesn't give you pause, the riding conditions themselves might win you over. The coast faces west, perfectly placed to catch the NNW trade wind that blows here on around 311 days of the year. That is not a typo. 311 windy days annually makes this one of the most consistently windy stretches of Atlantic coastline on the planet. The usable kite window runs from 180° through 359°, giving a broadly sideshore-to-onshore flow depending on exact conditions. For anyone chasing reliable trade wind in a genuinely untouched setting, the numbers make a strong case. The water is very shallow over sand and seagrass — wide and flat, the kind of expanse that looks inviting from the beach. The Banc d'Arguin is internationally recognised for its extraordinary birdlife, and riding here means sharing space with one of West Africa's most important wildlife sanctuaries.
